Installing esieabot
Installing esieabot-os
Warning
Be careful, you should never plug or unplug your SD card while your Raspberry Pi is powered on. It will damage its content.
To install esieabot-os, the operating system of your esieabot which is based on Raspberry Pi OS, you must burn your SD card with the disk image of the system. Be careful, this will erase the content of your SD card. To do this, follow these steps:
Install the balenaEtcher software on your computer: https://www.balena.io/etcher/.
Download the file https://esieabot.esiea.fr/download which contains the system disk image. You do not have to unzip it.
Connect the SD card of your esieabot to your computer.
Open the balenaEtcher software.
Click on “flash from file” and select the os.zip file you downloaded earlier.
Then click on “select target” and select your SD card. If it is not recognized, try unplugging it and then plugging it back in. If it is still not recognized, try changing the USB adapter. If it is still not recognized, open your partition manager and check that the SD card is recognized and that a mount point is assigned to it. If the SD card does not appear, ask esieabot support for a new SD card.
Then click on “flash” and wait for the burning to be done. If an error occurs, the burn verification has failed. This is most likely a problem with the SD card and/or SD adapter. You can follow the diagnostic steps in step 6. If this error occurs again, try to continue the installation anyway.
Unplug the SD card from your computer and plug it into your esieabot.
Turn on your esieabot. If you have an esieabot 2023 or newer, turn on your esieabot by flipping the switch on the left side of the power board. Otherwise, connect the USB PWR port of your Raspberry Pi to your battery or to your computer.
Note
Si votre esieabot (2023 ou plus récent) est neuf, vos batteries sont en veilles. Pour les faire sortir de veille, vous devez brancher votre chargeur (port micro USB à droite des batteries)
First start-up
Your esieabot will perform a series of actions during the first start-up. This cycle will last several minutes.
If you have an esieabot with a screen, you must wait until the message “Bye!” is displayed. You should then turn off your esieabot. Once it is completely off, unplug the SD card from your esieabot and plug it back into your computer.
If you do not have a screen, you must wait until the green LED on the Raspberry Pi turns off completely for more than 10 seconds. Once finished, unplug the power supply from your esieabot and plug the SD card back into your computer.
Warning
Warning, if you are on Windows, it will ask you to format the data partition. Of course, refuse.
You should normally have access to another smaller partition which is readable by your computer called “bootfs”. On this “bootfs” partition, you should have an “esieabot” folder. Go to this folder, then to the “info” folder. You should find 3 .txt files there. You have to copy them all on your computer, you will need them later. Then you can eject the SD card, plug it back into your esieabot and turn it back on.
The file “hotspot.txt” contains the name of your esieabot’s Wi-Fi hotspot and its password.
The file “pi.txt” contains the username and password of your esieabot.
The file “samba.txt” contains the username and password for the network file sharing system.
